A stunning three-hour hike begins at Lake Calaita, leading all the way to San Martino di Castrozza. Follow Trail 350, a scenic path offering breathtaking views of the Pale di San Martino. This trail is also perfect for a snowshoe hike in winter.

The lake itself is ideal not only for hiking but also for a leisurely walk or a bike ride with children.

How to reach Lake Calaita

Lake Calaita is about a 30-minute drive from Fiera di Primiero, passing through Canal San Bovo, the town where Chalet nelle Dolomiti is located.

A stroll around Lake Calaita

A true gem of the Dolomites, Lake Calaita is a small alpine lake at 1,605 meters above sea level, located within the Paneveggio Natural Park. It is surrounded by forests and wide, open meadows.

Before starting Trail 350 to San Martino di Castrozza, I recommend taking a walk around the lake. It takes about 20 minutes to enjoy the serene beauty of this alpine mirror.

Trail 350 stretches roughly 10 km, descending briefly through the forest before joining a forest road that gently leads into the town center.

Malga Crel

After about 90 minutes of walking, you’ll reach the turnoff for Malga Crel. Take a short detour to the left to visit this mountain hut, surrounded by magnificent views of the Pale di San Martino and the Vette Feltrine.

Soon after, you’ll arrive at Aghetto Plank, a small picnic area with tables and benches—perfect for a rest or a packed lunch.

Take some time to explore San Martino di Castrozza itself, enjoying the lively town center in contrast with the peaceful forests and enchanting landscapes around.

I recommend returning on foot to Lake Calaita. The changing light and perspective along the way completely transform the colors and scenery.

Too tired to walk back? Don’t worry—a bus is available to bring you back.
