Walk to the Chapel of San Silvestro from Passo Gobbera
The Story of the Chapel of San Silvestro
The Chapel of San Silvestro stands on Mount Totoga (1,705 m) in the municipality of Imer, Trentino. It was originally built in the 13th century.
At first, it was a small shrine, likely constructed on the remains of even older structures—possibly pagan or Roman. This was quite common in the early centuries of Christianity: across the region, ancient altars tied to local traditions or events were often reused and rededicated to Christian saints.
The chapel can only be visited inside when it is open to the public.

The Legend
According to legend, the chapel was meant to be built in a different location. But mysteriously, the stones that had been gathered there kept disappearing. Eventually, someone discovered that they had reappeared higher up on Mount Totoga – the very place where Saint Silvester was believed to want his sanctuary to be built.
