Hiking in the Dolomites
Walks in the Dolomites are always beautiful, but they can often be quite challenging. That’s not the case with the Marmot Trail on Alpe Tognola, a family-friendly hike perfect even for children.

Alpe Tognola lies at 2,200 meters, directly facing the majestic Pale di San Martino. You can reach it easily from San Martino di Castrozza by cable car, climbing 800 meters in altitude.

The Marmot Trail
This loop trail winds through the natural beauty of Alpe Tognola, inside the Paneveggio–Pale di San Martino Natural Park. The walk takes about an hour and a half, starting from Rifugio Tognola.

The highlight of this trail is the breathtaking panoramic view of the Pale di San Martino — one of the most iconic mountain groups in the Dolomites — making it a dream destination for photography lovers.

Along the way, children (and adults!) can search for minerals hidden along the trail — a real-life treasure hunt, accompanied by the whistles and sightings of the friendly marmots that call these meadows home.

Marmot Alpine Park
Alpe Tognola is truly a paradise for kids. The Marmot Alpine Park is a high-altitude theme park designed to let children discover nature through play. Open to everyone and completely free, it features slides, swings, climbing nets, balance platforms, and tunnels inspired by the adventures of two marmot mascots.

A favorite attraction among kids is the exciting “Marble Slalom” — endless fun!

The Tognola Panorama Balcony
This scenic viewpoint, one of the very first to be built in the Dolomites, is located at 2,036 meters, on the site of the old Panzer ski lift (the very first lift in San Martino di Castrozza, built in 1937).

The Tognola Balcony is perfectly positioned for stunning views of the Pale di San Martino, but the panorama stretches even further — from the Marmolada glacier to the Feltrine Dolomites, and behind you the Catinaccio and Lagorai mountain ranges.
